Stein am Rhein – history by the Rhine

The medieval town is one of the most beautiful attractions on the Upper Rhine, with its beautifully decorated houses surrounded by vineyards and guarded by Hohenklingen Castle, which dates back to the 12th century. Highlights include the Town Hall, the Monastery of St. George, the Museum Lindwurm, and the fresco-adorned façades on the Rathausplatz square.

Wagenhausen Provost's Church – the most beautiful church in Thurgau

Built in 1087, the Propstei in Wagenhausen was once home to a Benedictine community until the Reformation. Today, it serves as a parish church and is a popular wedding venue. The church is especially famous for its «Marien-Glocke» (Mary’s Bell) from 1291, the founding year of the Swiss Confederation.

Mainau Island – where Lake Constance blooms

On the famous «Flower Island» of Mainau, you can enjoy stunning blooms year-round on Lake Constance. Highlights include the Butterfly House, the Kinderland play area, the petting zoo, and, of course, the baroque palace, which hosts regularly changing exhibitions. Mainau Island is easily accessible by train, bus, or boat.

Rhine Falls – a unique natural spectacle

The Rhine Falls is perhaps the most famous excursion destination in northern Switzerland – and a breathtaking natural wonder! Europe’s largest waterfall is 150 meters wide and 23 meters high. Boats can take you close to the mighty rock in the middle of the roaring waters. From Laufen Castle, you can reach the platform “Känzeli,” offering spectacular views just above the cascading spray.

Schaffhausen – cultural heritage besides the Rhine

Schaffhausen is a beautifully preserved medieval town, dominated by the over 400-year-old Munot fortress, its most famous landmark. Don’t miss the scenic walk along the Rittergang to the cloister in the former All Saints Monastery and the impressive Romanesque cathedral.

Boat trips – discover the Rhine from the water

One of the highlights of the Thurgau region is exploring the Rhine by boat, one of Europe’s most beautiful river stretches. Enjoy stunning views of nature and culturally significant landmarks along the way. Many of the stops are culinary highlights, making it an ideal day out. Boat tours from Schaffhausen to Kreuzlingen and Konstanz on Lake Constance can easily be combined with a bike ride or a train journey.
